She creates a space where each student is seen, valued, and encouraged to be their authentic selves. Amy's background in teaching through Arts Integration inspires students to reach their full potential.

Early Childhood (Pre-K through 2nd Grade) Tutoring and Parent Support
Let's first ensure that your child's needs and our expertise and services align! Set up a phone or videoconference consultation to meet Amy and let her meet you and your child (soon to be reader)!
Tutor will identify skill gaps with an assessment screener, look at any current assessments and insight you provide. Learning goals created based on assessments and the initial tutoring session. Tutor will create and design lesson plans & activities based on your child's learning needs and style. Lessons are child-centered and skill-focused with engaging activities and materials.
Tutoring activities include a warm-up, review of previous taught skill(s), direct instruction, guided practice, independent practice, and assessment. Skills include phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, reading fluency, reading comprehension, grammar, writing fundamentals, writing conventions, and handwriting.
Tutor will work 1-on-1 with your child on their assigned homework. You provide the homework and the tutor will guide your child to complete the assigned work. This includes ELA homework like practicing letter sounds, reading word lists, completing reading logs, reading aloud, completing phonics, grammar, writing worksheets, and handwriting practice.
*Tutor does not create/provide lessons & activities. Tutor may provide materials & tools to enhance the homework as needed and discussed.
Parent support includes pre/post conferencing and debriefing with the tutor about the session. The tutor will go over the students' assessments, goals, strengths, and what they are working on. The conference can also include tips and strategies to help support your child on their path to success. There will be opportunities to observe strategies the tutor implements with your child so you can see it in action and implement on your own.
Social-Emotional Coaching uses moments of heightened emotion and resulting behavior to guide and teach the child and young person about more effective responses, leading to more peaceful, happy, and confident children and parents!
Let's first ensure that your needs and our services align! For a variety of reasons, sometimes they don't, which is okay, and we can provide recommendations!
An Initial Coaching Assessment/Intake (qualitative review, inventories, questionnaires, assessments) will provide us valuable information on problems and goals. An assessment generates a baseline that provides insight, increases awareness of patterns of behaviors, and identifies strengths and struggles, which is helpful to formulate the goals you want to target. We will routinely measure your/your child's progress next to this baseline.
Social and emotional learning is just as important to a child as learning to read and write. If your child needs support in these areas, please ask about this service alongside tutoring or as a stand alone service. Social and emotional coaching is naturally occurring during all tutoring sessions but can be emphasized if there are specific home or school situations and circumstances that need to be worked through that would improve learning outcomes.
“LITERACY IS- a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a (protection) against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories. Literacy is a platform for democratization, and a vehicle for the promotion of cultural and national identity. Especially for girls and women, it is an agent of family health and nutrition. For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right.... Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.”
